Frequently Asked Questions
We hope you can find many answers to your questions below. If you still have questions or are ready to book an appointment, please don't hesitate to call us at 732-244-0909.
Do you take my insurance ?
We take most insurances. Unfortunately, we do not take NJ Family Care or Medicaid. We verify your insurance before your first session to avoid any unexpected bills.
I've never been to therapy before, what can I expect?
You can expect to be able to talk freely about what might bother you without being judged or made fun of. You can expect to ask questions about why you may feel the way you do, and get answers that help you to understand what is causing your problems.
How can talk therapy help me?
It can make clear the reasons for your discomfort, and over time help you make changes or make peace with the causes.
Does therapy work?
It is very helpful to understand how your mind works and the various issues that may be causing discomfort. Understanding the causes helps to clear the mind and allows you to be happier and calmer day to day.
When should I see a therapist?
Seeing a therapist during times of high stress, grief, or major life changes can be very helpful. Additionally, therapy is helpful when you can’t sleep or you oversleep, gain or lose weight, argue more or retreat more, or generally don’t feel like yourself.
How often do I have to go to therapy?
It is recommended that in the first several weeks, weekly appointments are best to help you have time to fully discuss your concerns and for you and your provider to get to know each other. Most people continue with weekly sessions to maintain continuity and most efficiently resolve the presenting concerns. Some people may want to move to a session every other week. You may always discuss this with your therapist if you are unsure of the best frequency for you. Nothing is mandatory unless it is perceived that less frequent sessions might cause a mental health crisis.
How many sessions do I have to do?
There is no particular number of sessions that are required for you to feel better. Most clients work with our therapists for at least 6 months on a weekly basis. Many work with therapists for years.
How long is a session?
A session is 50-55minutes long.
Can I bring in my spouse?
Family therapy is often accepted by your insurance company, but marital therapy is sometimes rejected by your insurance company. Clinically, if you would like to include your spouse, discuss this with your provider.
I feel like I might be suicidal. If I talk about that, will I be hospitalized?
Feeling suicidal is not the same as being suicidal. You will be asked several questions about the nature of your feelings and more often than not you will not be hospitalized. If the need is there, it will be explained to you fully.
Am I able to select my therapist?
When you first call for an appointment, you will be able to request the therapist you would prefer. If you're unsure, we will help you to decide the best therapist for you. We can also simply provide you with the therapist with the next available appointment if you need to be seen quickly.
How long does it take to get an appointment?
The process is simple - we preauthorize your insurance and let you know when the next available appointment is. Most people are preauthorized and seen within 7 business days.
How do you accept payments?
For copays and out-of-pocket payers, we ask all clients to have a credit or debit card on file.
I need a letter for court. Do you provide those?
We can provide letters of attendance if the client signs a release form for us to do so.
Now that you're offering in-person sessions, do I have to see you in the office?
Although we are offering in-person sessions, many of our clients enjoy the convenience and style of telehealth sessions. You may choose to do telehealth, in-person, or alternate between the two. Please note most, but not all of our therapists offer in-person sessions.
What do I do if I have to cancel and is there a fee?
We ask for 24 hours advance notice. If you cancel within 24 hours of your visit or if you no-show, a cancelation fee of $75 will be charged to your card on file. On rare occasions there are circumstances that would be taken into consideration to waive the fee.
